Ok, before I totally forget to post this entirely:

[info]re_white, aka Sammy R, aka Princess Fluffy (Music Hobo Extraordaire) and yours truly have a project going on. We're basically compiling a list of the Best Songs Ever. You can check out the first part of the list, Drugs, Sex and War. All songs are available to readers, thanks to me and all the illegal file sharing that goes on at UW. >>

Befittingly, we have dubbed ourselves the Analog Pimps.

=======================================

Now onto the 2nd part of this post, which is me waiting for the other people to finish in the kitchenette so I can make my bloody dinner. A meme I got tagged with from Re some time ago:

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your Live Journal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.

First off, I'd like to say that for me to CHOOSE something that rocks my world is hard. I don't always have a classical sense when it comes to these things, and am somewhat unpredictable (but broad) in my tastes. In any case, you can download any of these songs by clicking on the link in the title:

1. "Bouken Desho Desho" - Hirano Aya

The opening theme for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya which some of you may have noticed I'm into. The actual music is a little "bubblegum" for my taste, but it's pretty characteristic about why I like/idenfify with the show: the main character is always looking for, always wanting something less ordinary than what she sees, and so it is created.

(translation)
I believe
Doing what everyone else does is no fun
You'll be mine
Only do the things you can truly experience

It's an adventure, right, right?
Reality is shrouded by deception
in this world of lies
Dreams are what make you strong
It isn't for someone else.

2. "The Interview" - AFireInside (AFI)

I wasn't a huge fan of AFI's first 2 albums, but man did I fall hard for Decemberunderground. After I saw the Miss Murder video, I was hooked. This album feels a lot less rough, and a lot more lyrical. The songs overall are driving and well-constructed. They're definitely hard rock, but not in a way that hurts.

I crawl across this cracked expansion,
I'll be buried soon.
Beneath the sand with pure intentions.
Wanting something, someone to follow.

For a change, I'll refrain,
From hiding all of me from you.
(here's my lullaby.)
Pray for rain, lose your name.
And watch all your dreams fall through.
(hush now, don't you cry)

3. "Passion" - Utada Hikaru

I have a real love/hate relationship with Hikaru's music. She has no consistent style, or when she does it's heavily hip-hop-influenced (really not my thing). Her lyrics are usually pretty simplistic, although there are exceptions. Passion is one. Some/most of you will recognize this from the Kingdom Hearts II opening, but I like this Japanese version so much better.

(translation)
The window will be tinted
A nostalgic color

If we advance forth, can we ever meet again?
The future goes on to everywhere
Beneath the large signboard
I want to keep watching the eras changing

4. "Move Along" - All American Rejects

What can I say, it's a good song. I've had it stuck in my head a lot lately. Again, just something I kind of identify with.

Go ahead as you waste your days with thinking
When you fall everyone stands
Another day and you've had your fill of sinking
With the life held in your
Hands are shaking cold
These hands are meant to hold

Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through

5. "The Battle" - Harry Gregson-Williams

I fell so incredibly in love with the Chronicles of Narnia soundtrack. It's one of the most emotionally charged soundtracks I've ever heard, and "The Battle" is its climax. The melody is flat-on-the-floor stunning, filled with tension and sweeping. Lastly, I have love for the percussion that starts up in the middle.

6. "Kyrie" - Iwasaki Taku

Most of the Witch Hunter Robin OST is kind of blah for me, but I really like this one. It's a "soft-techno" track with a catchy beat and strange but somehow fitting gregorian choir lyrics (no, I don't understand it). Whenever it comes up on winamp, I have to loop it 4 or 5 times just 'cause I don't want it to end.

7. "It Hasn't Happened Yet" - William Shatner

...Don't judge me.

[info]vtpilot45 sent this along to me, and despite my uneasiness about all things Shatner, I like it. They did a good job putting his spoken-word style into actual music, and the lyrics work too...but other than that it's kind of hard to describe.

I was crossing the snowfields in front of the Capitol Building
It was Christmas and I was alone
Strange city
Strangers for friends
And I was broke
As the carillon sang its song, I dreamt of success
I would be the best
I would make my folks proud
I would be happy
It hasn't happened yet
